E-scooter rider hits 7-year-old boy in Woodlands, asks victim: "Why you block my way?"

An e-scooter rider, while ferrying his wife, crashed into ayoung boy along a pedestrian pathway near Block 549 Woodlands Drive44 on the afternoon of November 14 last year.

Instead of helping the boy after the accident, the man scoldedthe seven-year-old victim, shouting at him, 「Why you block myway?」

Du Aiwen, 22, was charged in charged in court along with twoother e-scooter riders last month, reports Lianhe Wanbao.

He was sentenced on Tuesday (April 3) with causing hurt throughnegligence, and given a $1,500 fine. 

His e-scooter has also been confiscated and destroyed.

The court heard that the boy had just finished his classes andwas walking home along with his father, Mr Wu Zhiqiang, 35, and hisfriend Mr Ma Guofeng, 34. 

The three of them saw Du and his wife approaching them on ane-scooter and kept to the left side of the pathway to let thee-scooter through. 

As Du rode nearer to the trio, he stepped on his accelerator andsped up. 

At that moment, the boy suddenly stepped towards the right andcollided head-on with the e-scooter. 

Du, his wife, and the boy were all thrown on the ground from theresulting collision. 

Mr Wu told  that his son had been sent flying for about twometers from the impact, and the back of his head had hit theground, 

The boy started crying on the spot. 

Du then alighted from the scooter and started scolding theboy.

He shouted at him: "Why you block my way?"

Mr Wu, enraged by his behaviour, confronted him, but Du raisedhis fists, threatening to hit him. 

Said Mr Wu: "I saw that he could not be reasoned with, so Icalled the police immediately."

Du upon realising that Mr Wu was calling the police, tried toleave but was restrained by Mr Ma until the officersarrived. 

The boy was then conveyed to a hospital for treatment. 

According to a medical report, the boy suffered bruises on theright side of his face and injuries on his left hand. 

He did not suffer any fractures but was traumatised by theincident that he vomited thrice. 

For causing hurt via negligence, Du could have been jailed forsix months and/or fined up to $$2,500.

The judge in delivering the sentence also took intoconsideration that the boy was not severely hurt.
